statement
Christine Chang Hanway is an artist, architect and writer based in London. Connecting to her creativity and making art is a spiritual practice where she endeavors to cultivate magic — the belief that there is something greater than us — into all aspects of her life.
She is interested in exploring worlds beyond the immediate realm of the physical; the ones where we hold our memories and stories. Currently in the studio, she is investigating inherited traumas that constantly nip at the heels of diaspora. When we have lost everything from our life before, the trauma stubbornly remains, forever etched into our memories. How do we repair, mend and alchemize this trauma into something whole and no longer broken?
Christine’s creative process involves intensive rounds of iteration; gathering, researching and reflecting and uses a variety of mediums to create her liminal realms. She has a great affinity for transparent water-based media because flow, layers and accidental happenings are what transport her quickest to these.
